Soldering Copper Tubing

Soldering Copper Tubing

Step # 1 Use a wire brush or abrasive pad to clean each hub on the fitting.

Step # 2 Scour the end of each pipe until it's shiney at least 1 inch back where the fitting will be attached.Wipe the pipe and fitting with a rag.

Step # 3 Apply flux to the pipe end and the inside of the fitting with a small brush.Insert the pipe and wipe away the excess flux.

Step # 4 Pull approximately 24 inches of solder from the spool and wrap it around your hand for a better grip.

Step # 5 To keep from scorching the rubber and plastic parts in the shutoff valve, remove the stem before soldering the valve.

Step # 6 Heat both sides of the lowest hub on the fitting.Touch the solder to the fitting.Continue to heat the fitting until the solder starts to melt.

Step # 7 When you have finished soldering the fitting and before the solder hardens wipe the excess solder from each joint.
